This formidable stallion was the first of the white Camarguais horses I was to come across on my séjour in the South of France in April 2017. The photograph of this stallion inspired many paintings and drawings from my body of work. The stillness of the awesome stallion against the backdrop of the wild tall grasses that both surround him and cast their shadows upon his form embrace and soften the beautiful beast. In the hollowness of the eye socket and the nostrils, the shade defining the jawbone, a strong and solid shape is defined. The straggly mane and forelock mirror the pattern of the tall grasses in a beautifully composed image.
