I painted this magnificent elk on paper in my cabin in West Virginia years ago. I found a photo in an old National Geographic Magazine and I liked it, the feel, the palette, so I painted it. It was rolled up in my painting storage cabinet, and rediscovered years after its creation. The irony is, I now live in the Willamette Valley of Oregon , elk herd habitat. Little did I know then, or perhaps my heart knew, and was drawn to this image for this reason. Funny how intuition works.
